WHAT'S NEW AT W&M?
Summer Time in Worcestershire
Summer has fully arrived here at W&M, bringing a slow, golden energy that infuses everything we do. The crops have grown thick and lush, moving like velvet waves in the warm breeze. Overhead, the air is filled with a constant symphony of birdsong, anchoring us to the steady, peaceful rhythm of the season.
The greatest joy of these midsummer days is the light. Our bright evenings seem to stretch on forever, giving us extra hours to watch our flock of Ryeland sheep graze contentedly in the pasture. Their beautiful, bouncy fleeces—now available for spinners and weavers—are a constant reminder of the direct connection between the land, the animals, and the textiles we create.
In the spirit of celebrating this abundance of summer colour, we are utilising some of our new found dressmaking skills (thanks to Sew Mindful, Worcester). Over the next few weeks, we are taking on a creative challenge: crafting a pair of naturally dyed patchwork trousers. We will be cutting, piecing, and sewing together fabric from our scrap bag, including some dyed with indigo, weld, pomegranate and madder. Follow along on instagram if you are that way inclined.

BRINGING NATURAL COLOUR TO LIFE

Childrens natural craft workshops
Teaching is both an occupation and an addiction. Wild and I love facilitating learning in the classroom, but we also enjoy getting out and about. Where other teachers count down to school holidays for a jolly good rest, we look forward to the opportunity to design and deliver inspiring children's courses using natural resources, creative skills and even a little bit of scientific magic.
Popular courses to date have included:
-
Indigo dyeing.
-
Charcoal production, drawing and marshmallow toasting.
-
Making natural inks and using them for calligraphy.
This year we are planning more exciting courses - perfect for all abilities ranging from young enthusiasts to art scholars.
BRINGING NATURAL COLOUR TO LIFE
Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let things go - unknown.

The writer of those words may be "unknown" but they are certainly very wise indeed:
As the vibrant greens in nature fade, the plethora of oranges, yellows, reds, and golds leave us in rapture.
Not to mention the plentiful harvest of ink-making materials and time... the time to come inside to brew, play, plan, stitch and create using this season's colour and those we harvested in the hazy days of summer.
